Brickworks remained operating until 1970. Like many brickworks sites in Sydney, the pits at Sydney Park were also used as a local tip (Sydney Park: Kangaroo Ground to Brickpits | The Dictionary of Sydney). Some of the decommissioned Bedford Bricks kilns are retained in the landscape of the park, a trend in public space as “the  chief  form of memorialising the disappearing industrial history of Sydney” (Murray). Update this as will be completed.

Most importantly to flood management, the Sydney Park wetlands divert stormwater through underground pipes. When the water levels are high, water is drawn from the channel into the Sydney Park Wetlands.
